A new virtual herbarium platform from Ukraine
The digitization and accumulation of significant amounts of data have led to the development of numerous independent virtual herbaria, as well as collection-centric platforms joining several to many herbaria. Different virtual herbaria offer different functionalities, but they all serve a common goal: providing open access to digitized specimens and presenting structured data about them. In this article, I outline the main features of a new herbUA platform, which combines a virtual herbarium and a collector-centric database. This platform was recently launched in Ukraine, and I hope it may become the main platform for presenting open herbarium data in the future.
