Operator Flow: The Meta-Law of Physics

Abstract Physics faces a double schism. On one hand, classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and general relativity each possess unique equations and concepts, lacking a unified mathematical language. On the other hand, the variational principle, the central paradigm of physics, conceals a fundamental philosophical presupposition: that the system “knows” the endpoint and “chooses” the optimal path among countless possibilities. This “beauty contest paradigm” is extremely successful in describing completed evolutions of static systems, but cannot explain how a system makes decisions in real time. This paper proposes operator flow as the meta-law of physics, simultaneously responding to both challenges. The unified equation of operator flow is: dκ/dt = U * ∇_{κ*} V(κ)This is not an “improvement” of the traditional variational method, but a fundamentally different dynamical paradigm—the walking paradigm. The system does not know where the endpoint is; it only knows “in which direction to take the next step at this very moment.” The potential function V(κ) is not a static energy landscape but a “force field” that takes effect at every moment; the structure operator U is not a global selection preference but the coupling mode between the system and its environment. The structure operator U encodes the algebraic type of symmetry, and the gradient field ∇V encodes the continuous emergence of coupling strength. Operator flow unfolds this meta-law into a unified physical picture: classical mechanics (U=1 for the dissipative limit, U=J for full Hamiltonian mechanics), quantum mechanics (U=i), Abelian anyons (U=e^{iφ}), non-Abelian anyons (U a unitary matrix), and quantum gravity (V upgraded to a terrain operator V̂). This paper further rigorously derives the spin-statistics correspondence from the operator flow equation and the phase closure condition of Axiom 4—integer topological charge corresponds to Bose statistics, and half-integer topological charge to Fermi statistics. This derivation does not rely on Lorentz invariance or quantum field theory axioms, but is the direct signature of the topological charge classification on exchange operations. The core thread of this paper: The antisymmetry of Axiom 4 is the discrete origin of symplectic structure, the half-period antisymmetry is the axiomatic foundation of the spin-statistics correspondence, and the operator flow equation is the meta-law unifying physics. Keywords: operator flow; meta-law; variational principle; walking paradigm; beauty contest paradigm; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; anyons; quantum gravity; spin-statistics correspondence
