How the Standard Model Quantum Numbers Emerge from Z_7 x Z_3: A Tutorial on Winding Numbers, Ground States, and Generations
A quantum number is a permanent label attached to a particle — like a barcode that no physical process can change. The Standard Model has been discovered to require a specific set of such labels (color charge, weak isospin, hypercharge, baryon number, lepton number, and generation) but provides no explanation for why these particular quantum numbers exist. This tutorial explains how the UGP Physics / GTE framework derives the complete set of Standard Model quantum numbers from the group structure Z_7 x Z_3, using winding numbers around the discrete vacuum of the GTE polynomial, ground state degeneracy counting, and the arithmetic structure of the three-tape CMCA. The three generations of fermions emerge from the three independent tape directions; the specific charge assignments follow from the number-theoretic structure of the Z_7 symmetry group.
