Hegel's Distribution And Independence

Background:David Hume's problem of induction is related somehow to the gap between finite empirical observations and universal certainty and poses a challenge for statistical inference when theoretical certainty (\(p = 1\)) is assumed but empirical observations reveal rare deviations. Material and methods: We introduce Hegel's Distribution (Dialectical Unity Distribution), defined by a uniform probability mass function \(P(K = k) = 1/n\) for \(k = 1, \dots, n\), where \(n\) is the number of trials and \(k\) the observed successes. We derive the Index of Relationship \(\text{ior} = \frac{P(U \cap W)}{P(U) \cdot P(W)} - 1\) and its absolute counterpart \(p(\text{ior}) = |\text{ior}|\) as measures of departure from independence. Left-tail, right-tail, and two-tailed \(p\)-values are expressed in terms of \(p(\text{ior})\). Results:Under perfect independence (\(p(\text{ior}) = 0\)), Hegel's Distribution reduces to \(P(K = k) = 1/n\), with \(p_{\text{left}} = 1\) and \(p_{\text{right}} = 1/n\). Applied to the EPIC-HR study data on Ritonavir and COVID-19 death (\(n = 1219\), \(p(\text{ior}) = 1\)), we obtain \(k_{\text{observed}} = 0\), \(p_{\text{left}} = 0\), and \(p_{\text{right}} \approx 1\), indicating perfect dependence. Conclusion:Hegel's Distribution provides a mathematically coherent framework for reconciling theoretical certainty with empirical contingency. The Index of Relationship offers a novel measure of dependence that aligns with the dialectical synthesis of cause and effect.
