Light Catcher (Dream Frequency)

"Light Catcher (Dream frequency)" is a short philosophical prose piece cast as a dream-vision. A solitary maker looks out over what he takes to be a city and finds instead a vast three-dimensional circuit board: a cosmos of charged "ions," half positive and half negative, that he once designed to move in resonant harmony. Having relinquished direct control and let the system run on its own, he watches it expand into chaos, and must allow a built-in mechanism of self-separation to sort the charges before the design is lost. The piece works through creation and care, the cost of the freedom a maker grants his creatures, theodicy, and an eschatology of separation rather than annihilation — the ascending and the settling — closing on the possibility of a resonance so complete that the maker himself would have to answer.
