A Simple and Durable ZIF‐Based Fluorine‐Free Superhydrophobic Polyester Fabric for Efficient Oil–Water Separation and UV Protection

Nowadays, superhydrophobic textiles are widely applied in various fields such as oil–water separation, ultraviolet protection, and self‐cleaning surfaces. However, the development of multifunctional textiles that integrate durable performance with wearing comfort remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, a low‐liquid‐supply preparation strategy was proposed. Superhydrophobic polyester fabrics were fabricated by atomization spraying zinc nitrate hexahydrate and 2‐methylimidazole onto the fabric surface, followed by the in situ introduction of polydimethylsiloxane at room temperature. The scanning electron microscopy images showed the formation of ZIF‐8/PDMS rough structures on the fiber surface without blocking the original gap structures of the PET fabric. The modified PET fabrics exhibited robust superhydrophobicity even after 100 washing cycles and 10 000 abrasion cycles. Moreover, the superhydrophobic fabrics exhibited excellent self‐cleaning and antifouling properties, remarkable ultraviolet protection performance, and high oil/water separation efficiency. Notably, the UPF value of the modified fabric reached 782.68, demonstrating exceptional UV protection by blocking 99.9% of ultraviolet radiation. The oil–water separation efficiencies of the prepared PET fabric reached 97.8% for n ‐hexane and 98% for chloroform even after 20 cycles. Despite the functional modifications, the PET fabric retains favorable air permeability. This method offers a promising approach for achieving a balance between multifunctionality and wearing comfort in textile design.
