Model‐Free Predictive Current Control of Switched Reluctance Motors Based on Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Observer

ABSTRACT Due to the highly nonlinear electromagnetic characteristics of the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM), it is difficult to establish its accurate mathematical model, which limits the robustness of traditional model‐dependent control methods. To address this issue, this paper proposes a model‐free predictive control method for SRM based on a Super‐twisting Sliding Mode Observer (STO). First, an ultralocal model of the SRM drive system is constructed to avoid reliance on the accurate flux linkage model of the motor. Subsequently, an STO is designed to achieve synchronous and accurate estimation of phase current and system disturbances, solving the problems of slow disturbance estimation convergence and sliding mode chattering in the traditional linear extended state observer (LESO). Moreover, the proposed method is compared with the LESO‐based model‐free predictive control methods. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method has significant advantages.
