CBCT- Assisted Immediate Implant Placement in the Anterior Maxilla and Mandible : A Review

AbstractDental implant therapy has become a cornerstone of modern restorative dentistry, offering predictable outcomes for tooth replacement. Among implant protocols, immediate implant placement (IIP) placement of an implant directly after extraction has gained popularity due to advantages such as reduced treatment time, preservation of alveolar bone, and improved patient comfort. However, immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone (anterior maxilla and mandible) presents unique anatomical and surgical challenges. The introduction of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has revolutionized diagnostic imaging, offering three-dimensional evaluation of alveolar bone and critical structures with relatively low radiation doses. This review summarizes the role of CBCT in planning and executing immediate implant placement, with emphasis on anatomical considerations, diagnostic advantages, treatment planning, clinical outcomes, and limitations.
