Toward a graph-based lineage database for maithi brahmins: Digitizing the panji tradition and technical architecture for a community-stewarded lineage database

This public working paper and companion technical architecture document propose the creation of an open, community-stewarded graph database for Panji Prabandh tradition of Mithila, with an initial focus on Maithil Brahmin lineage records and eventual extensibility to related Mithila lineage traditions. The project aims to digitize, structure, and preserve Panji records in a provenance-aware graph model that can support ancestor search, lineage grafting, source attribution, conflict handling, privacy controls, and community contribution workflows. The proposed system is intended to help Maithil families, Panjikars, scholars, technologists, and cultural-preservation contributors collaborate towards a durable digital lineage corpus. This release includes: A whitepaper describing the cultural rationale, scope, data model, governance considerations, and call for collaboration A companion tecnical architecture document describing the proposed database architecture, ingestion pipeline, graph schema, application layers, and implimentation direction The authors invite collaboration from source contributors, Panji manuscript custodians, Maithili - and- Mithilakshar- literate scholars, gegealogical researchers, technologists, and members of the Maithil community interested in preservation, verification, and responsible digital access.
