GLP-1 Agonist–Associated Weight Loss: A Comparison by HIV Status in the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort
Obesity is a growing concern among people with HIV (PWH), partly driven by antiretroviral therapy (ART), particularly integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). Excess weight gain may increase cardiometabolic risk. While glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are effective for weight loss in the general population, their impact in PWH remains underexplored. This study assessed changes in weight, body mass index (BMI), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) following GLP-1RA therapy in PWH compared to people without HIV (PWOH) and examined the modifying effect of ART regimen.
