Digital Comparison Culture and Its Relationship with Psychological Well-Being and Life Satisfaction among University Students Using Social Media

Abstract: The present study, entitled: Digital Comparison Culture and Its Relationship with Psychological Well-Being and Life Satisfaction among University Students Using Social Media, aimed to investigate the correlational relationship between the digital comparison variable and the two variables (psychological well-being and life satisfaction) among university students. The descriptive method was adopted due to its suitability for the nature of the study. For data collection, the following scales were applied: the Digital Comparison Scale developed by (Romana, 2024), Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale (translated and adapted by Moushmoush, 2022), and the Life Satisfaction Scale by (Desouki, 2013). The sample consisted of 256 university students using social networking sites at Yahia Fares University of Médéa, selected using quota sampling. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS v23) was used for statistical analysis to test the hypotheses. The study concluded that there is a statistically significant negative correlation between digital comparison scores and both psychological well-being and life satisfaction among university students. It also showed that university students exhibit high levels of digital comparison culture on social networking sites. Regarding gender differences, the study found statistically significant differences in digital comparison scores in favor of female students. Keywords: Digital comparison culture, psychological well-being, life satisfaction, university students, social networking sites.
