Rhinoplasty: Evolution, Applied Surgical Anatomy, and Contemporary Concepts – A Narrative Review
AbstractBackground: Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex facial surgical procedures due to the intricate anatomy of the nose and its critical aesthetic and functional roles. Over centuries, rhinoplasty has evolved from reconstructive procedures aimed at repairing mutilation to highly refined aesthetic and functional surgeries. Objective: To provide a narrative review of the historical evolution of rhinoplasty, applied surgical anatomy of the nose, and contemporary concepts guiding modern rhinoplasty.Materials and Methods: A narrative review was conducted using classical surgical literature, historical texts, and contemporary studies focusing on rhinoplasty evolution, nasal anatomy, surgical principles, and complications. Results: Advances in anatomical understanding, surgical techniques, and grafting methods have transformed rhinoplasty into a predictable and patient-centered procedure. Preservation of structural support and nasal function has emerged as a cornerstone of modern practice. Conclusion: A thorough understanding of nasal anatomy, biomechanics, and historical evolution is essential for achieving optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes in rhinoplasty.
