The Floor of Inference: On the Invariant Minimum of Any Determinate Distinction

This preprint argues that any determinate distinction — any act of holding one thing apart from another, including inference, judgment, or claim — necessarily enacts three inseparable aspects: identity, difference, and relation. These aspects are treated as co-primitive within determinate thought: none can stand alone, and proposed reductions to a deeper operator re-enact the triad in being stated. The paper’s central claim is not that reality itself is triadic, but that the triad is the invariant enacted form of any statable distinction. It develops this claim through the reflective seal: because examining thought is itself an act of thought, no standpoint outside determinate thought is available from which the floor could be certified as also the floor of being. The paper therefore distinguishes invariance from absoluteness and holds the triad as invariant within statable frames, not as an absolute metaphysical structure. Two corollaries are developed. First, absolute nothingness cannot function as a coherent contrast term for existence, since posing it as an alternative already enacts the floor it is defined to lack. Second, diachronic identity is treated as a trajectory of momentary floors, distinguishing synchronic self-sameness from persisting identity across time. This preprint develops the structural basis of the Contrastive Axiom introduced in the author’s prior paper, The Incoherence of Absolute Nothingness (Zenodo, 2026). https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20463391 Keywords: structure of inference; identity; difference; relation; co-primitivity; invariance; reflective limit; relativity of information; personal identity; absolute nothingness.
