THE LITHIUM-7 IGNITION HYPOTHESIS: AN ALTERNATIVE MODEL FOR STELLAR GENESIS AND THE PRIMORDIAL LITHIUM DEFICIT

The Cosmological Lithium Problem—characterized by a threefold deficit of primordial Lithium-7 (⁷Li) in ancient, metal-poor stars compared to Big Bang predictions—remains a major anomaly in modern astrophysics. Additionally, classical models of stellar genesis struggle to explain how collapsing gas clouds overcome the electrostatic Coulomb barrier to ignite ordinary light hydrogen (¹H) without relying entirely on low-probability quantum tunneling events. This paper introduces a unified solution to both paradoxes by proposing the Lithium-7 Ignition Hypothesis. We demonstrate that non-random elemental segregation driven by fluid dynamics and rotational mechanics inside proto-stellar clouds concentrates heavier Lithium-7 ions into dense localized nodes. When core temperatures reach 2.5 million Kelvin, this concentrated lithium activates prematurely via proton capture (¹H + ⁷Li → 2 ⁴He + 17.35 MeV), creating a localized thermal shockwave that bridges the energetic gap required to ignite the main hydrogen engine. This catalytic consumption provides an immediate, structural explanation for the scarcity of primordial lithium in early stars. Furthermore, we show that as this finite, non-renewable starter resource is depleted over successive stellar generations, galaxies fill with sterile, un-ignitable "Zombie Clouds." This indicates that the observed slowdown of universal star formation is dictated by the efficiency of the lithium-recycling loop rather than raw hydrogen exhaustion, fundamentally shifting our understanding of the timeline toward cosmic heat death.
