High-Fidelity CFD-Based Pitch Curve Correction for IEA 15MW Wind Turbine

Addressing the discrepancy between the blade pitch strategy designed via Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory and the results obtained from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, this study employs a high-fidelity CFD approach to correct the design pitch curve of the IEA 15 MW reference wind turbine. The results show that the sensitivity of turbine torque to the pitch angle increases with higher wind speeds. At a wind speed of 25 m/s, the torque exhibits the greatest sensitivity to pitch variations; a mere reduction of 2.0° in the pitch angle results in a 4.63-fold increase in torque. The corrected pitch strategy enables the IEA 15 MW wind turbine to maintain stable operation at rated power beyond the rated wind speed. This research provides critical theoretical foundation for enhancing the precision of aerodynamic load computations and optimizing the pitch control system of the IEA 15 MW wind turbine, while also delivering more accurate data support for multiphysics modeling of large-scale offshore wind turbines.
