Artificial Intelligence in Cognitive Electronic Warfare – New Realities of Information Warfare. Book Review: Haig K.Z. Andrusenko Yu. Cognitive Electronic Warfare: An Artificial Intelligence Approach. 2nd ed. Boston, London: Artech House; 2025, 432 p

The review is devoted to a critical analysis of the book “Cognitive Electronic Warfare: An Artificial Intelligence Approach”, authored by Karen Zita Haig and Yulia Andrusenko. This topic is in the early stages of development in Russia, and the available materials do not provide a comprehensive understanding of the possibilities for applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) systems in the context of electronic warfare within the framework of a new model of information warfare. The book strength lies in its systematic examination of the problem, as the authors are recognized experts in the field of applying artificial intelligence in various areas of science and technology. The authors have thoroughly covered the significant aspects of using AI and ML systems in shaping the relatively new concept of cognitive electronic warfare (CogEW). The book describes the main methods for applying AI and ML systems to enhance situational electronic awareness regarding the electromagnetic interaction of systems. This publication will be useful for both young scientists, graduate students, and specialists in the field of electromagnetic interaction and electronic warfare. An undoubted advantage of the book under review is that it demonstrates how a cognitive system perceives the environment and learns from its interaction with it to achieve set goals.
