Correction to “Colchicine delays the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with hepatitis virus‐related liver cirrhosis”

Arrieta O, Rodriguez-Diaz JL, Rosas-Camargo V, et al. Colchicine delays the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with hepatitis virus-related liver cirrhosis. Cancer. 2006;107(8):1852-1858. doi:10.1002/cncr.22198 In the Results section, the statement “Twenty-seven percent of the patients developed HCC” was imprecisely reported. This should have read: “16.7% of the patients (31/186) developed HCC.” In total, 31 HCC events were recorded across the study cohort: 11 in the colchicine group (116 patients) and 20 in the non-colchicine group (70 patients). These 31 events were used in the Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazards analyses. In the Discussion section, the statement “HCC was less common in the group of patients treated with colchicine (26% vs 10%)” contained transposed and imprecise percentages. This should have read: “HCC was less common in the colchicine group than in the non-colchicine group (9.5% [11/116] vs 28.6% [20/70]).” The direction of the finding and all conclusions remain unaffected. The authors apologize for these errors.
