A COLLABORATIVE VOCABULARY TO AN OPEN DIGITAL PLATFORM: PRESERVING URBAN SPACE AND ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS AND SOCIAL TAGGING
ARQUIGRAFIA has brought together images of architecture and urban space from Portuguese-speaking countries such as Brazil and Portugal since 2018, and now a new version is launched. As it is a free, open-source, and collaborative platform, their more than 14,000 images were uploaded, cataloged, and indexed by institutional and individual users. The user tags are processed as candidate terms and added on TemaTres, a free software to manage vocabularies. For each term, the ARQUIGRAFIA's Controlled Vocabulary Team creates Scope Notes, categorizes it, and arranges it in a hierarchical structure, based on documentary, linguistic, and terminological procedures. This way, users contribute to the growth of the platform's controlled vocabulary, with a wide range of variations. This promotes the use of both resources, social tagging and vocabularies. Since 2019, ARQUIGRAFIA has been a member of CVAA-BR, a consortium that contributes to the Getty Vocabularies with terms in Portuguese. First contributions were terms of architectural elements, published on AAT, and recently the team has been working on building and geographical names, to be published on CONA and TGN. CVAA-BR's goal is to provide a free terminological tool that supports the information representation and retrieval of cultural collections such as ARQUIGRAFIA which, in turn, seeks to preserve and disseminate the Lusophone architectural heritage.
