Overload in Human Psychic Processing
This technical note develops a human-specific architecture for relating independently established overload-formation records to independently established human-processing records without redefining overload or converting co-occurrence into causation. The generic overload architecture remains upstream and preserves the distinction among current structural or regulatory tension, instantaneous non-compensated excess, and retained overload. These objects are not interchangeable and are not collapsed into a generic human processing-cost, regulatory-capacity, overload-intensity, or overload-severity scalar. The present paper introduces four evidential levels. Exact overload-to-human alignment establishes only that an overload basis is relevant to an exact human record under a declared outcome-surface contract. Evidence-based association adds independently aligned association evidence. Matched comparison adds an explicit overload-role contrast, matched human records, a declared human readout, and common present controls. Effect qualification adds a separate identification layer supported by an independently established causal or directional warrant. These levels are ordered by evidential strength rather than by time, processing stage, mechanism, or universal causal progression. Human outcome records may be drawn from focal attention, symbolic regulation, structural-transformation records, affect-like modulation, repetition and return, avoidance and displacement, interface-relative accessibility and restriction, significance, identity-related records, or other explicitly declared surfaces while preserving their original source semantics. A positive association does not establish causation. A positive matched difference does not establish an effect. A positive effect qualification remains local to the declared comparison, outcome surface, controls, identification warrant, and design scope and does not imply a universal human law. The architecture introduces no automatic overload-to-attention, symbolic, affective, recurrence, avoidance, accessibility, identity, conflict, or transformation law. It also defines no generic overload-reduction operator, protective or rigid overload status, chronicity status, clinical syndrome, therapeutic mechanism, or intervention prescription. The resulting construction therefore provides a provenance-preserving evidential architecture for human overload-linked analysis while keeping overload formation itself, human-processing outcomes, and causal identification as distinct formal objects.
