PEDESTRIAN HEAT EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT USING THE WBGT EXCEEDANCE INTEGRAL
Urban thermal environments vary in space and time, and pedestrian heat exposure depends on the overlap between thermal conditions and walking behavior. We propose an exposure assessment approach based on the integrated exceedance of Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) above a threshold at the urban block scale. WBGT fields from CFD are combined with pedestrian mobility data in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo. Results show how exposure accumulation varies with time, space, and behavior. The indicator does not assess individual health risks, but provides a descriptive framework for characterizing exposure.
