Chemical Kinetics Study of Ammonium Perchlorate/Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene Surrogate Mixtures

The key features of the gas-phase combustion behavior of ammonium perchlorate/hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (AP/HTPB) can be represented by a surrogate mixture of ammonia ([Formula: see text]), hydrocarbon ([Formula: see text]), and chlorine precursors ([Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]). New measurements of chlorinated species (HCl) and CO (Carbon Monoxide) time-history profiles were performed in shock tubes using laser absorption diagnostics. The experiments were carried out for [Formula: see text] and 0.1 [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] oxidation at an equivalence ratio ([Formula: see text]) of 1.0 in 99.5% He/Ar with temperatures ranging from 1460 to 2340 K, and near-atmospheric pressure. Both [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] provided Cl radicals successfully via the reactions [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text]. Consequently, the Cl interactions were directly observed with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], such as [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. Additionally, the 0.1 [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] mixture exhibited two major reaction pathways: 1) from the precursor [Formula: see text] described as [Formula: see text], and 2) from the [Formula: see text] submechanisms with the reaction [Formula: see text]. Finally, the model assembled in this study performs rather well for a preliminary version, but improvements are still necessary.
