Experimental Evaluation of Sample‐Number Dependence of Spatial Resolution in <scp>PPRM</scp> ‐ <scp>OCDR</scp>

Periodic pseudo‐random modulation (PPRM) has recently been introduced to improve the spatial resolution of optical correlation‐domain reflectometry (OCDR). In this study, we experimentally examined how the number of samples in one PPRM period affects OCDR performance. The spatial resolution improved as the sample number increased and reached its minimum at approximately 2000 samples, indicating the presence of an optimal sampling condition. These results provide practical guidelines for selecting modulation parameters in PPRM‐OCDR systems. © 2026 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
