Effect of process-based strategies on anaerobic digestion of 3D-printing-derived polylactic acid: biogas production and mechanistic interpretation
• Anaerobic biogas yield from 3D-printing-derived PLA was mechanistically investigated. • Micro-aeration, Fenton and thermo-alkaline strategies were comparatively carried out. • Thermo-alkaline pretreatment enhanced biomethane production up to 360 mL/g PLA . • FT-IR, DSC and viscometry analyses highlighted PLA degradation mechanisms. • 3D printing enhanced PLA susceptibility to thermo-alkaline hydrolysis.
