Cadmium accumulation and phytotoxicity in Panax ginseng: Implications for root development and ginsenoside biosynthesis
• Cadmium inhibited root development in ginseng adventitious roots. • Cadmium exhibits bioaccumulation characteristics in adventitious root tissues of ginseng. • Cadmium could trigger the cell death of root tips and increase the ROS in ginseng roots. • Cadmium exposure reduces the biosynthesis of ginsenosides and polysaccharides.
