Seasonal and spatial dynamics of greenhouse gases and organic carbon in peatland pools of western Siberia
• Small peat pools show highest areal CO2 and CH4 release potential. • Winter ice cover drives strong under-ice gas accumulation in peatland pools. • Mid-sized and large lakes dominate landscape-scale aquatic C losses. • Annual aquatic C budget is conservative due to missed ice-off and ebullition. • Late-April ice breakup is a critical unmeasured carbon-release window.
