Exploring the Synthesis, Properties, and Applications of Molybdenum Disulfide ( <scp>MoS</scp> 2 ): A Comprehensive Review

ABSTRACT Among the transition metals, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) is a highly recognized dichalcogenide that has gained significant attention for its diverse applications in electronics, catalysis, and energy storage due to its exceptional properties. This review examines the synthesis of MoS 2 using various methods and considers its electronic properties, and layered structure. Our discussion includes both conventional methods like chemical vapor deposition, solvothermal, and liquid‐phase exfoliation, as well as more sustainable alternatives such as mechanical exfoliation, physical vapor deposition, and hydrothermal synthesis. The sustainability of MoS 2 production is emphasized, with a close examination of the environmental effects associated with these methods. Also mentioned in the review are applications of the material as well, from field‐effect transistors and photodetectors to catalytic processes and renewable energy technologies. Through the analysis of existing literature, this paper aims to gain comprehensive knowledge about MoS 2 , its synthesis challenges, and future research directions to enhance its application potential.
