ABOUT THE CAUSES OF DEFORMATION ON PUBLIC ROADS
The article discusses the main causes of deformations and damage on public roads during their operation. The physicochemical processes of bitumen aging, including evaporation of volatile components, oxidation, polymerization, and polycondensation, which occur under the influence of temperature, oxygen, moisture, and solar radiation, are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the influence of traffic loads and natural and climatic factors on the reduction of road surface strength. The most common types of defects are described: cracks, ruts, potholes, subsidence, wave formation and peeling, as well as the causes of their occurrence. The results of experimental studies on the determination of the modulus of elasticity of the layers of pavement using the press-stamp method are presented. It has been established that humidity and temperature conditions, the heterogeneity of the base and the discrepancy between the structural parameters of the road and the actual traffic loads have a significant impact on the development of deformations.
