C4 Functionalization of the Isoquinoline Core via Oxidative Radical Substitution
ABSTRACT In this work, we report a straightforward synthetic procedure that enables the selective functionalization of the C4 position of isoquinoline, followed by subsequent transformations of the resulting products. Although numerous synthetic procedures have been reported for obtaining this relevant class of nitrogen heterocycles, only a few methodologies are available for their functionalization, particularly for modifying the heterocyclic ring. The strategy features an oxidative radical substitution process that generates radicals from readily prepared xanthates. Subsequent transformations of the resulting products demonstrate the synthetic potential to access new compounds.
