Eosinophilic cystitis masquerading urinary bladder carcinoma
Abstract Eosinophilic cystitis (EC) is an uncommon inflammatory disorder that was initially identified by Brown & Palubinskas in 1960. Histopathological diagnosis is characterized by inflammation throughout the bladder wall, accompanied by eosinophilia. Patients typically exhibit a range of urological symptoms, including increased frequency of urination, burning micturition, visible or microscopic haematuria, suprapubic pain and urinary retention. In this unusual case, a young female with clinical and radiological signs indicative of bladder carcinoma was ultimately diagnosed with eosinophilic cystitis following a bladder biopsy. The patient was managed conservatively with antibiotics, antihistamines and corticosteroids.
