Repetitive oxidation performance of NiCrAlY+ 0.4 wt% CeO2 coating applied using detonation-gun spraying
The research focuses on the enhancement of high-temperature corrosion resistance in D -Gun coated NiCrAlY coatings by incorporating cerium oxide (CeO 2 ). These coatings are applied to Nickel and iron-based superalloys, aiming to improve their performance in extreme conditions. While rare earth oxide additions have shown promise, there is limited literature specifically addressing the elevated-temperature oxidation performance of such CeO 2 coatings. This study addresses the gap by evaluating the special effects of CeO 2 on the corrosion resistance of these advanced superalloy coatings. Repeated oxidation tests were conducted for hundred (100) cycles at 900 °C to evaluate the corrosion resistance of uncoated and coated superalloys. The coated superalloys demonstrated superior oxidation resistance compared to uncoated ones. CeO 2 was observed to distribute along splat boundaries within the coating. investigation of corrosion particles formed during oxidation was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray mapping to understand the mechanisms of high-temperature oxidation in these coatings. This approach highlights the effectiveness of CeO 2 in enhancing oxidation performance, as schematically illustrated in the graphical abstract (Fig. 1).
