LaMnO3 perovskite for solar-driven degradation of coomassie brilliant blue dye

Coomassie Brilliant Blue R-250 (CBBR-250) is a triphenylmethane dye widely used in various industries and poses a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health. To address this issue, the photocatalytic performance of nanostructured LaMnO 3 perovskite was investigated for the degradation of CBBR-250. Various characterization techniques were employed to examine the structural, morphological, surface, and optical properties of the material. The results confirmed the formation of LaMnO 3 perovskite with a crystallite size of 17.2 nm, exhibiting irregular elliptical and polyhedral morphologies and a band gap of 1.90 eV. These properties significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity, achieving a removal efficiency of 84.6% with a rate constant of 0.01539 min −1 , which further increased to 97.6% under acidic conditions. Radical scavenging experiments revealed that superoxide (O 2 •− ) and hydroxyl (OH • ) radicals played dominant roles in the degradation process. This study provides valuable insights for designing efficient LaMnO 3 based photocatalysts for sustainable wastewater treatment.
