Seakeeping analysis of a damaged ship using CFD
• CFD simulations compare 6-DOF motion RAOs between intact and damaged ships under regular waves with forward speed. • Roll motion shows pronounced RAO increases at resonance wavelengths; other five motions show no significant differences. • Resonance occurs when encounter frequency coincides with the natural roll frequency from free decay tests. • Damaged ship roll RAO is twice as large under stern quartering sea and 1.2 times larger under beam sea than intact condition. • Damaged-induced roll RAO increase was larger under stern quartering sea than beam sea, offering a practical safety indicator.
