Pig blood-derived amino acid-chelated calcium alleviates salt stress in tomato plants by enhancing calcium homeostasis, ion balance, and antioxidant capacity
• A novel amino acid-chelated calcium was successfully synthesized using pig blood-derived protein hydrolysates. • PC enhanced calcium uptake by upregulating transporter genes and effectively alleviated salt stress in tomato. • PC improved ion homeostasis by increasing K⁺ uptake and reducing Na⁺ accumulation. • PC attenuated oxidative damages by activating AsA-GSH cycle and phenolic biosynthesis.
