Advances in CN Condensation Strategies for Benzimidazole Synthesis: A Synthetic Methodology Review
Ongoing advances in synthetic methods have greatly expanded access to benzimidazole derivatives through innovative catalytic and non‐catalytic approaches. This review focuses on recent advances in copper‐catalyzed reactions, condensation processes, noble‐metal, and first‐row transition‐metal catalysis, as well as metal‐free, hypervalent iodine‐mediated, and radical‐based techniques for constructing benzimidazole scaffolds. This review highlights significant contributions to mechanistic insights, catalyst systems, and substrate scope, highlighting methods that enable one‐pot transformations, direct CH functionalization, and aiming to provide a conceptual summary that will be useful to researchers and inspire further developments in the rapidly growing medicinal field and advanced synthetic design.
