Turbine rim seal ingress mitigation in a supercritical CO2 environment via 2D CFD-based parametric design
• Parametric 2D RANS framework evaluates 283 rim seal geometries for sCO2 turbines. • Four rim seals assessed via 3D URANS to quantify sealing effectiveness. • Selected geometries reduce required purge mass flow by 22.3%. • Higher 2D rim seal pressure drop indicates higher 3D sealing effectiveness. • sCO2 boosts cavity/platform cooling while the blade tip is the highest-risk region.
