Experiment and Simulation of a Temperature Swing Adsorption–Desorption Process for Tetrachloroethylene Waste Gas on Beta Zeolite

Tetrachloroethylene (C2Cl4) is a highly toxic and persistent chlorinated solvent widely emitted from industrial sources, making its efficient removal crucial for air pollution control and resource conservation. In this study, a temperature swing adsorption (TSA) process model was established using Aspen Adsorption to simulate the adsorption and regeneration behaviors of C2Cl4 on BEA(35) zeolite, which exhibited an experimental maximum adsorption capacity of 84.53 mg·g–1 at 25 °C. The thermodynamic and kinetic parameters effectively captured the adsorption behavior of C2Cl4 on BEA(35), forming the basis for TSA process simulation. Based on these parameters, the simulation accurately reproduced the breakthrough and regeneration behaviors of C2Cl4, with the predicted breakthrough time nearly identical to the experimental results. Moreover, the simulation and experimental results showed similar desorption trends and consistently identified 500 mL·min–1 as the optimal purge gas flow rate for regeneration. The enriched desorption stream was successfully recovered through a subsequent condensation process. In addition, cyclic experiments confirmed that BEA(35) maintained stable adsorption–desorption behavior, showing negligible capacity loss and excellent structural stability after 20 consecutive cycles. These results highlight the suitability of BEA(35) for practical TSA operation and provide valuable guidance for the design of industrial VOC recovery systems.
