Assessment of the high-intensity statin therapy impact on the incidence of recurrent myocardial infarction in patients at the high cardiovascular risk
Myocardial infarction (MI) remains one of the leading causes of death, especially in patients with high cardiovascular risk. Lipid-lowering therapy with statins is a standard component of secondary prevention programs aimed at reducing the incidence of recurrent ischemic events and improving quality of life. Objective. To evaluate the impact of statin therapy on the incidence of recurrent myocardial infarction in high cardiovascular risk patients based on an analysis of current clinical trials and guidelines. Materials and methods. A review of scientific literature for 2019—2025 presented in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and eLibrary electronic databases was carried out. The analysis included randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses and major retrospective and cohort studies devoted to assessment of the effectiveness and safety of statin therapy. Results. It has been shown that therapy with statins leads to a reduction in the incidence of recurrent cardiovascular events, especially in elderly patients and individuals with a burdened medical history. The importance of compliance, duration of treatment and individual dosage titration has been noted. Conclusion. Statins are effective in secondary prevention of myocardial infarction in high cardiovascular risk patients. Clinical effectiveness and safety of therapy is achieved in its early prescription and long-term application. Further stratification of patients in order to optimize lipid-lowering therapy regimens remains a promising direction.
