Delayed Repositioning of Traumatically Displaced Maxillary Central Incisor Using Forceps - A Case Report
Abstract Lateral luxation is a traumatic dental injury characterised by non-axial displacement of the tooth with associated alveolar and periodontal ligament (PDL) damage. This case report presents the management of a laterally luxated permanent maxillary central incisor in a 43-year-old female who reported 15 days after trauma. Because the tooth was mechanically locked in the socket, controlled forceps-assisted extrusion followed by repositioning was performed and stabilised with a fibre-reinforced composite splint. Endodontic treatment was initiated following splint removal due to loss of pulp vitality. Quantified clinical parameters and structured follow-up up to 3 years confirmed no mobility, normal probing depths, and intact PDL space with no ankylosis or resorption. This case highlights the value of timely surgical repositioning, appropriate splinting, and endodontic follow-up in ensuring long-term success.
