Report on phases 1 and 2 of the Wentworth: a social, economic and political history project: technical report

This Report deals with the first and second phases of the Wentworth Social, Economic and Political History project that were both funded by the HSRC. The report is divided into several sections, each with their own subs-sections. Section One, the Introduction, includes the rationale for the study, objectives and methodology. Section Two deals with the Project Implementation. The Appendix is a book proposal together with three draft chapters. RatiIn large part, studies of social, economic and political histories of communities tend to focus on the macro-level, resulting in the construction of broad generalisations about 'race' groups. There also exist a number of studies of South African 'racial' groups, similarly focusing on the macro-level. Very few studies exist of local communities, and among the most significant include such studies of the history of Kathorus by Phil Bonner and Noor Nieftagodien (2001), Soweto by Phil Bonner and Lauren Siegal (1998), and KwaMashu by Susanna Godehart (2006).
