Stochastic Bilevel Program for Wind Power Investment Utilizing Dynamic Line Rating

Wind power is a primary form of renewable energy and its integration into the power grid is of crucial importance. Sufficient transmission capacity is required to support the growth in wind power. Dynamic line rating is one of the key transmission technologies that can increase the integration of wind power. In this study, we introduce a stochastic bilevel program for wind power investment within an electricity market environment in which dynamic line rating is allowed to be invested in lines. We develop a linearization technique and linearize the problem. We use scenarios to deal with uncertainties in wind, load, and dynamic line ratings. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency that dynamic rating brings to the wind power integration.
