Frontiers of Theoretical Physics and Human Destiny: A Comprehensive Review of String Theory, Quantum Computing, Telomere Biology, and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
This paper presents a structured, interdisciplinary review of the major themes discussed by theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, co founder of string field theory and Henry Semat Professor of Theoretical Physics at City College of New York, during his extended discourse on the The Diary of a CEO podcast. Drawing on both the primary interview material and current peer reviewed literature, this review examines five interconnected frontiers: (1) string theory and the quest for a unified “theory of everything,” (2) the multiverse hypothesis and the nature of cosmic origins, (3) the role of telomeres and telomerase in aging, cancer, and the prospect of radical life extension, (4) quantum computing and its implications for cryptography and societal infrastructure, and (5) the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), including the anomalous dimming of KIC 8462852 (Boyajian’s Star). Each section contextualizes Kaku’s public facing arguments within the broader scientific landscape, identifying areas of strong empirical support, ongoing theoretical debate, and speculative extrapolation. The paper also briefly addresses the simulation hypothesis, the evolutionary basis of religion, and the existential risks posed by advanced technologies.
