Scattering‐Assisted Real‐Time 3D Holography With Arbitrary Full‐Color Control in the Hue‐Saturation‐Brightness Space

ABSTRACT Holography enables direct naked‐eye visualization of realistic 3D images and represents a promising route toward next‐generation display technologies. Practical holographic displays require the simultaneous realization of three core capabilities: real‐time refresh, full‐color reproduction, and high axial resolution. Although substantial progress in 3D holography has enabled each of these requirements individually, no existing approach achieves all three simultaneously in a single 3D holographic system. Here we introduce scattering‐assisted temporal‐multiplexing holography (STMH) to address this longstanding challenge. By combining the high refresh rate of a digital micromirror device with temporal multiplexing, STMH enables frame‐by‐frame modulation and arbitrary color control across the full hue–saturation–brightness space, providing a route to true full‐color holographic display. The resulting holographic videos achieve a satisfactory average color accuracy (∼96.4%), and a high frame rate (∼220 Hz), supporting real‐time display. Moreover, by incorporating a scattering medium that markedly compresses the depth of field, the STMH achieves an axial resolution of ∼1.14 mm at the working distance of ∼70 mm, approximately one order of magnitude better than without the scattering medium. Our work establishes an effective strategy for high‐performance naked‐eye full‐color 3D holographic displays, with broad potential applications in virtual and augmented reality and emerging display platforms.
