THE HIGGS MASS FROM A MODULAR REPLACEMENT OF THE MSSM MATCHING LOG
The Standard Model Higgs mass is normally computed from the one-loop self-energy m_h^2 = 2 lambda(mu) v^2 + (3 y_t^4 v^2)/(4 pi^2) * ln(M_S^2 / m_t^2) + ... where the displayed term is the dominant stop-loop contribution in the MSSM and the dots cover electroweak-threshold and tree-to-pole corrections. Producing a number from this expression requires four external inputs that are not fixed by the Standard Model alone: (i) the SUSY scale M_S (typically a few TeV); (ii) a boundary value lambda(M_S), equivalently y_t^4(M_S); (iii) the two-loop renormalisation-group equations from M_S to M_Z; (iv) electroweak-threshold and tree-to-pole matching corrections. This note shows that the entire combination y_t^4 * ln(M_S^2 / m_t^2) admits a closed-form replacement built from the nome at the elliptic fixed point tau_0 = exp(2 pi i / 3) of PSL(2,Z), q_0 = |q(tau_0)| = exp(-pi sqrt(3)) (small parameter) L = -ln q_0 = pi sqrt(3) (log primitive) together with five small integers {N_c, k_H, Phi_4, k_GUT, k_W} = {3, 2, 10, 26, 30}. N_c = 3 is the QCD colour count, k_H = 2 is the SU(2)_L Coxeter integer, and the remaining three are normalisations arising from the evaluation of weight-k modular forms at the two elliptic fixed points tau_0 and tau_1 = i of PSL(2,Z). The replacement rule is (3 y_t^4 v^2)/(4 pi^2) * ln(M_S^2 / m_t^2) ---> (3 v^2)/(4 pi^2) * (k_H / Phi_4) * [ (49/52) * L * ln 3 + 5/6 ] with two parts: Coefficient: y_t^4 --> k_H / Phi_4 = 2/10 = 1/5 Bracket log: 2 ln(M_S / m_t) + ... --> (49/52) * pi sqrt(3) * ln 3 + 5/6 The coefficient substitution is NOT an identification of the low-energy Yukawa (y_t^4(M_Z) is about 0.77); it is the integrated combination that appears in the one-loop self-energy. The numerator 49 in the bracket equals Phi_6(N_c)^2, where Phi_6(x) = x^2 - x + 1 is the 6th cyclotomic polynomial: Phi_6(3) = 9 - 3 + 1 = 7, so Phi_6(3)^2 = 49. Adding the tree-level term 2 lambda v^2 with lambda --> pi / k_W = pi / 30 gives the closed form m_h^2 = 2 v^2 * [ pi/30 + (N_c * k_H) / (16 pi^2 * Phi_4) * ( (49/52) * pi sqrt(3) * ln 3 + Phi_4 / (N_c * k_H^2) ) ] In all-integer form: m_h^2 = 2 v^2 * [ pi/k_W + (N_c * k_H) / (16 pi^2 * Phi_4) * ( (2 k_GUT - N_c) / (2 k_GUT) * L * ln N_c + Phi_4 / (N_c * k_H^2) ) ] with v = 246.22 GeV.NUMERICAL EVALUATION (each term to 12 decimal places): pi / 30 = 0.104719755120 (N_c k_H) / (16 pi^2 Phi_4) = 6 / (160 pi^2) = 0.003799544387 (49/52) * pi sqrt(3) * ln 3 = 5.633102957630 Phi_4 / (N_c k_H^2) = 5 / 6 = 0.833333333333 bracket value = 0.129289266830 m_h^2 = 2 * (246.22)^2 * bracket = 15676.140 GeV^2 ---> m_h = 125.2044 GeV <--- COMPARISON WITH MEASUREMENT PDG 2024 combination [1]: m_h(PDG) = 125.20 +/- 0.11 GeV Closed-form prediction: m_h = 125.2044 GeV Deviation: delta m_h = 4.4 MeV delta m_h / m_h = 3.5 x 10^-5 (i.e. 0.0035 %) delta m_h / sigma_PDG = 0.040 sigma COMPARISON WITH THE STANDARD ONE-LOOP CALCULATION The closed form has zero free parameters: m_h follows from v, the integers {3, 2, 10, 26, 30}, and the standard constants pi, sqrt(3), ln 3. The conventional one-loop calculation reproduces the measured value only after fitting the SUSY scale M_S, the ratio tan beta, the stop-mixing parameter X_t, and the boundary value lambda(M_S). Where the conventional treatment requires four external inputs (M_S, lambda(M_S), two-loop RGE, EW thresholds), the closed form requires none. The deviation from the PDG central value is below 5 MeV and well inside the experimental 1-sigma band. STRUCTURAL NOTE The five integers used here have independent interpretations in the modular evaluation: k_W = N_c * Phi_4 = 30 (weight-related normalisation) k_GUT = N_c^3 - 1 = 26 Phi_4 = 10 (normalisation at tau_1 = i) The arithmetical identity Phi_6(N_c)^2 = 2 k_GUT - N_c (49 = 52 - 3) is what gives the descent factor its clean closed form 49/52. The substitution rule presented here is a testable structural claim about how loop-matching logs are restructured by the modular evaluation. Analogous restructurings should appear in other Standard Model loop-corrected observables; the author invites scrutiny on this point. REFERENCES [1] S. Navas et al. (Particle Data Group), Phys. Rev.
