EVOLUTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE NIGERIAN PETROLEUM INDUSTRY'S DOWNSTREAM SECTOR
This article explores the evolution and transformation of Nigeria’s petroleum industry’s downstream sector from the colonial era to the period after independence. The colonialists controlled the industry until the period of the indigenization policy, when local actors were introduced. The author noted that while the upstream sector has received significant attention from scholars and policymakers, the downstream sector needs to be reported because of its importance to the daily life of the Nigerian citizen. To do this, the researcher draws from various sources, including archival materials, newspaper articles, reports of government commissions, and interviews with stakeholders, to explain the downstream sector’s evolution and transformation.
