PERSPECTIVES AND COPING STRATEGIES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TOWARD STAGE FRIGHT
This qualitative phenomenological study explored the perspectives and coping strategies of Senior High School students toward stage fright. The study was conducted among selected students of Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation, Inc. (DVOREF) in Tacloban City. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that students commonly experience stage fright due to fear of judgment, fear of making mistakes, and unfamiliar audiences or situations. Emotional, psychological, and physical reactions such as nervousness, anxiety, panic, trembling, sweating, and self-doubt were identified. The study also found that stage fright negatively affects students’ participation, confidence, and academic performance. To cope with stage fright, students use strategies such as preparation and practice, breathing and relaxation techniques, positive self-talk, and repeated exposure to speaking situations. The findings highlight the importance of addressing students’ emotional and psychological readiness in improving public speaking confidence and academic engagement.
