Negotiating Intervention: A Contemporary Painting Conservation Case Involving Jolly Koh
This reflective conservation case study documents the treatment of a contemporary painting by Malaysian artist Jolly Koh. The project explores ethical negotiation, living artist intervention, tropical conservation challenges, and collaborative decision-making between conservator, artist, and collector. Rather than presenting a fixed conservation solution, the paper reflects on uncertainty, reversibility, and compromise within contemporary painting conservation practice in Southeast Asia.
