Photoinduced Synthesis of Pyrimidine Thioesters Utilizing Diethyl 2,2′‐Disulfanediylbis(4‐methyl‐6‐phenylpyrimidine‐5‐carboxylate)

Herein, we describe a metal‐free photosensitization process. This process is carried out under room‐temperature conditions and is excited by light emitted from a 10 W blue light‐emitting diode with a wavelength range from 430 to 435 nm, which then drives a photoinduced intermolecular reaction between diethyl 2,2′‐disulfanediylbis(4‐methyl‐6‐phenylpyrimidine‐5‐carboxylate) and various aldehyde compounds. This reaction system employs the organic photocatalyst 4CzIPN and proceeds smoothly in chloroform (TCM), ultimately achieving the efficient synthesis of corresponding pyrimidine thioester products with good isolated yields. Additionally, we have validated its reaction mechanism through density functional theory calculations.
