Exploring the potential of blockchain technology in optimizing logistics operations based on the Fuzzy ANP and Fuzzy DEMATEL
This study examines the feasibility of blockchain technology adoption in Ethiopia’s logistics sector by focusing on key factors including security, trust, scalability, privacy, interoperability, auditability, latency, and visibility. The analysis covers major logistics functions, namely inventory management, transportation coordination, supply chain tracking, and customer order fulfilment. To assess adoption feasibility, the study employs an integrated decision-making framework combining Fuzzy ANP, Fuzzy DEMATEL, and Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic within an intuitionistic fuzzy environment. The results indicate high model-based feasibility across all four application areas, with customer order fulfilment ranking highest, followed by inventory management, supply chain tracking, and transportation coordination. Security, visibility, and auditability emerge as the most influential factors shaping blockchain adoption in the logistics sector. The study offers empirical and methodological insights into how blockchain can improve operational efficiency, transparency, and decision quality in emerging-market logistics systems. By addressing a limited evidence base in this context, it provides a structured framework to support logistics firms in evaluating and implementing blockchain-enabled operations.
