How to … Analyse Descriptive Phenomenological Data in Health Professions Education
Descriptive phenomenology seeks to understand the essence of lived experience. This article focuses specifically on the analysis of descriptive phenomenological data in Health Professions Education and introduces Colaizzi's method as a practical, seven-step approach. Throughout the analysis, the importance of reflexivity, bracketing (epoché), transparent documentation of analytic decisions and close grounding of themes in participants' words is emphasised.
