Accounting for Microclimatic Characteristics of Road Sections During Winter Maintenance
Statement of the problem. To ensure traffic safety on motor roads during the winter period, it is essential to conduct timely maintenance activities while considering the specific features that may lead to the formation of winter slipperiness. Addressing this issue requires accounting for the microclimatic characteristics of individual road sections. To study the influence of road-related factors on the conditions that lead to various types of slipperiness, an analysis of specialized road meteorological information is necessary. Such information is collected using sensors from road weather stations (RWS). Results. An analysis of the spatial and temporal scales of weather parameters was conducted to justify the need for specialized road meteorological observations. The technical means for conducting these observations were examined. Additionally, information from RWS located on sections with varying road parameters was analyzed. Conclusions. Preliminary results indicate differences in the measured parameters. The analysis of these results supports the conclusion that additional research is necessary to develop relationships that describe the formation of slipperiness, taking into account the specific characteristics of road sections.
